A Journal Entry by Scout Finch

A journal response to Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird, from Scout's perspective

Dear Journal,
I strongly dislike school. Actually, I just dislike Ms. Caroline. The lady's got some strange logic. She says that Atticus taught me reading the wrong way. He didn't even teach me. But would she ever listen? She also got mad at me when I told her about the Cunninghams. She doesn't know anything about the town. It doesn't take much to get to know the county folks. Ms. Caroline just doesn't seem to fit in Maycomb county. Maycomb county is a sleepy, little town, and sometimes it makes you feel that a day is longer than twenty-four hours. There is no sense of hurry, since there really isn't much to do here in Maycomb. Everyone goes to church, and people are pretty friendly. That is, except for the Radleys. Their doors are always closed, and you rarely ever see anyone come out of the house. Once, Jem even went straight up and touched the house, but that was extremely risky, and we could've all been killed if he hadn't ran away real quick. Anyways, Ms. Caroline doesn't seem like part of this community. I mean, who would be so pushy about giving a Cunningham money? I suppose she'll get used to the county folks sooner or later. In the meantime, I will keep writing, as I am doing now, because Ms. Caroline doesn't have to see my journal. It isn't even my fault that I know how to write. I just wanted my bread and butter and sugar. Calpurnia sure is good at making those.

Response to "The Sound of the Hollyhocks"

(poetic response to the "The Sound of the Hollyhocks" by Hugh Garner)

Test Post

Well, hello everyone, I don't know what blogs really are, so this is just an experiment to see what it looks like after I press the "Publish" button. I also don't really know what to say, so I guess I should finish this thing off and quit blabbering. Well, thanks for reading these 53 words of nonsense! Hopefully my next post will be more worthwhile.
